Christmas shines even on darkest nights

Have you ever hung socks on your window, expecting that Santa will come and bring you presents every Christmas? We have always perceived Christmas as a season of generosity and enjoyment as we celebrate with our loved ones since we were young. However, we cannot deny that this worldwide pandemic has put a halt to our various Christmas traditions.

Many people travel hundreds of miles to spend time with their loved ones during Christmas. The preparations for the holiday season begin months in advance with decorating the Christmas tree and shopping gifts for loved ones. However, since the pandemic affected the entire globe, people's celebrations of the most beautiful season also changed. Avoided visiting loved ones for fear of catching the COVID-19 Virus and spending the Christmas season far from friends and extended family because of travel limitations and prohibition of mass gatherings.

The world seemed to stop moving when the global pandemic halted the journey of our lives in early 2020. But despite the pandemic's challenges, the City Government of Vigan has decided to continue the glazing Christmas vibes in the Heritage City of Vigan by conducting the annual Artes Ita Paskua with the new normal set-up. Most of Artes Ita Paskua's activities were held online. Some were with a limited number of participants in order to prevent mass gatherings and meet the City COVID-19 Task Force's Minimum Health Standards while still enjoying the Christmas season. The City's creative individuals took part in various events such as Baranggay Christmas Installation, Christmas Card Making, My Grown-up Christmas Wishlist competition, and Christmas Street Painting.

The years 2020 and 2021 were unusual for us in various ways. Even though we are in the midst of a pandemic, the city government has managed to ensure that we enjoy the Christmas season while being indoors. Despite the present situation, the many events sponsored by the City genuinely aroused the pleasure and glitter of Christmas. These Christmas memories will last a lifetime for every one of us. A friendly reminder to keep your masks on and make each Christmas season as memorable as possible because Christmas shines even on darkest nights.
